Since completing a PhD in solar physics at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory in Surrey in 2016 Dr Yardley is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews. Stephanie’s research focuses on understanding the evolution and eruption of the Sun’s magnetic field by using a combination of data-driven magnetic field models and observational data analysis. To understand how the Sun’s magnetic field evolves prior to eruption and to significantly improve current predictions provided by space weather forecasts we require fast, realistic and robust magnetic field models of the Sun that can be provided in near real-time.

Alongside her research she is actively involved in public engagement and outreach activities, which includes giving talks, demonstrations and space related activities. She is also a Guest Lecturer and Resident Astronomer for various cruiselines.
